Damascus, Syria – A deadly shooting and suicide bombing targeted a crowded church in the heart of Damascus during Sunday service, claiming the lives of at least 22 people, according to Syrian authorities. The Islamic State (ISIS) has been blamed for orchestrating the unprecedented assault, marking a disturbing escalation in the group’s activities in the Syrian capital.
The attack, which occurred during a packed religious gathering, shocked the local community and drew strong condemnation from international leaders. Officials stated that the attacker, believed to be an ISIS member, opened fire inside the church before detonating an explosive device, causing mass casualties.
