New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to embark on a high-profile visit to the United States next month, coinciding with his participation in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session scheduled between September 9 and 29 in New York.
According to government sources, the trip may also include a bilateral meeting with US President Donald Trump, marking a potential turning point in ongoing trade negotiations between the two nations. The meeting, if confirmed, will be the leaders’ first face-to-face interaction since Trump returned to the White House earlier this year.
Diplomatic circles suggest that discussions could cover tariff disputes, defence cooperation, and regional security issues, with a special focus on Indo-Pacific stability. The visit comes amid heightened trade tensions, following Washington’s push for renegotiated trade terms and India’s cautious stance in talks.
If finalised, Modi’s engagement with Trump will likely be closely watched by global markets, given the economic and strategic weight of both countries.
