14/100 and Now a Doctor? TPSC GDMO List Triggers Health Safety Outrage in Tripura

Date:

Agartala, August 14, 2025 — A newly released recommendation list by the Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC) for the recruitment of General Duty Medical Officers (GDMO) has ignited a storm of criticism across the state, with social media — especially Facebook — flooded with angry reactions from residents.

The list, dated August 13, 2025, and issued under Advertisement No. 07/2024, features candidates with alarmingly low scores, some as low as 14.05 out of 100, being recommended for key medical positions under the Health & Family Welfare Department. In total, eight candidates from the Scheduled Tribe category were named, with marks ranging from 22.55 to just 14.05.

Critics argue that appointing doctors with such low performance in the selection process amounts to gambling with public health. “When someone scoring just 14 out of 100 is deemed fit to treat patients, it’s not recruitment — it’s a direct threat to patient safety,” one viral Facebook post read.

Healthcare professionals and citizens alike are calling this a dangerous lowering of standards, claiming it undermines the trust patients place in doctors and dishonors more qualified candidates who were overlooked.

The controversy is further fueled by TPSC’s note that no suitable or eligible candidates were found for several other reserved categories, including posts for persons with disabilities.

This latest development has quickly become one of the most discussed topics in Tripura’s online space, with hashtags related to the issue trending locally. Many are now demanding that the government re-examine the recruitment process to ensure competence and patient safety are not compromised in the name of filling vacancies.
