New Delhi/Agartala, Aug 21: Tripura is set to witness a major boost in railway infrastructure with four stations selected under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. Union Rail Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, in response to a query raised by MP Biplab Kumar Deb in Parliament on Wednesday, confirmed that Agartala, Dharmanagar, Kumarghat, and Udaipur stations have been identified for modernization.
The minister highlighted that the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is a long-term initiative aimed at transforming Indian railway stations into modern, passenger-friendly hubs. Compared to the UPA government era, the pace of station development under the Narendra Modi government has increased by nearly 6.5 times, he stated.
According to the updates shared:
Agartala Station: Lift installation is complete, while a 12-meter foot overbridge and new station building works are in progress. Dharmanagar Station: Platform shelters, approach roads, and boundary walls have been completed. Work on the circulating area, a 12-meter foot overbridge, and an escalator has been initiated. Kumarghat Station: Development plans include a 12-meter foot overbridge, upgraded circulating area, approach road, a new waiting hall, and platform shelters. Udaipur Station: Construction of a 12-meter foot overbridge, new waiting hall, and improved toilet facilities is underway.
The minister added that the modernization efforts will cover improved waiting halls, toilets, seating arrangements, safe drinking water, better passenger information systems, executive lounges, and facilities for Divyangjans. The scheme also integrates initiatives like ‘One Station, One Product’, promoting local goods, alongside enhanced parking and multimodal transport connectivity.
The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, Vaishnaw emphasized, has been designed to significantly improve passenger experience while ensuring long-term infrastructure growth for Indian Railways.
