Tripura is set to receive ₹3,450 crore from the Central Government under the newly introduced ‘Pride of Hills’ scheme for the financial year 2026–27. The announcement was made by Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, who expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for launching the initiative.
The scheme is part of the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) and aims to support hill states facing geographical and financial challenges. The allocated funds are expected to boost infrastructure development, promote tourism, and meet various sectoral needs across the state.
Designed specifically for hill regions, the ‘Pride of Hills’ component addresses issues such as difficult terrain, low population density, limited connectivity, and weaker revenue generation capacity. These factors often result in higher dependence on central assistance and weaker fiscal indicators.
For 2026–27, the Centre has earmarked a total of ₹25,000 crore under this component for nine hill states, with Tripura receiving a significant share among them. The funding is intended to accelerate development through increased capital expenditure and help states manage financial liabilities more effectively.
