Agartala, May 31:
The city of Agartala has once again been lashed by heavy rainfall, with a fresh spell beginning around 5:30 PM on Friday evening. This comes as a severe blow to the city, which is already grappling with waterlogging and flood-like conditions due to continuous rains over the past few days.
The downpour, which began suddenly, has led to further water accumulation across low-lying areas, worsening the situation for residents. Several roads are inundated, severely disrupting vehicular movement. Localities such as Battala, Banamalipur, Ramnagar, and parts of the city center are reportedly facing knee-to-waist deep water.
Residents are struggling with power outages, water entering homes, and limited access to basic amenities. Emergency services are on high alert, and the Agartala Municipal Corporation has issued advisories urging people to stay indoors and avoid waterlogged areas.
Meteorological departments have indicated the likelihood of continued rainfall due to the influence of a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, which is affecting the entire northeastern region.
Authorities are working to deploy additional pumps to drain water and are coordinating relief operations. However, with the rainfall showing no signs of stopping, concerns are rising over potential landslides in nearby hilly regions and worsening urban flooding.
