BJP MLA Ranjit Debbarma Urges Governor to Implement Centre’s Notification on Identifying Illegal Bangladeshi Immigrants in Tripura

Date:

Agartala, June 7: A delegation led by BJP MLA Ranjit Debbarma met with the Governor of Tripura today to press for immediate implementation of a Central Government notification aimed at identifying and deporting illegal Bangladeshi immigrants residing in the state.

The Central Government had earlier issued a directive to all states to take necessary steps to identify Bangladeshi nationals living illegally in India and initiate deportation procedures. While several states, including neighbouring Assam, have already taken action in response to this directive, Tripura has yet to begin any concrete process in this regard.

Concerned over the delay, MLA Ranjit Debbarma, along with a few representatives, submitted a memorandum to the Governor, requesting the immediate enforcement of the Central notification in Tripura.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Mr. Debbarma stated, “The issue of illegal immigration is affecting the demographic and administrative stability of our state. While other states have begun taking steps, Tripura’s inaction is concerning. We have urged the Governor to take up this matter with the state government and ensure that the Centre’s notification is implemented at the earliest.”

He emphasized that safeguarding the state’s cultural and social fabric is of utmost importance, and timely action is necessary to address the concerns of local citizens.
