Agartala | June 9, 2025:
The political atmosphere in Tripura turned volatile on Sunday night after the BJP filed a case at East Agartala Police Station against Congress youth leader Shahjahan Islam for allegedly making vulgar and objectionable remarks against Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, the police administration, and BJP leadership on social media.
The BJP strongly condemned the comments, calling them a deliberate attempt to provoke unrest. Speaking to the press, Asim Bhattacharjee, BJP Sadar Urban District President, stated:

“There’s no place for such indecent political behavior. Shahjahan Islam has crossed all limits of decency, and legal action was necessary.”
Amid this political uproar, a dramatic scene unfolded at Shantipara in Agartala. Senior Congress leaders Sudip Roy Barman and Ashish Saha were reportedly chased by BJP Yuva Morcha workers in front of police personnel. Videos circulating on social media appear to show the two leaders leaving the area in a hurry, avoiding direct confrontation.
While the BJP claims the youth activists were protesting against the Congress leaders’ alleged involvement in anti-government rhetoric, the Congress party has yet to issue a formal statement regarding the events.
