Acting on a tip-off, officials from the Panisagar Forest Department seized a vehicle loaded with illegal timber following a dramatic chase early Tuesday morning. The department had received confidential information that a Bolero pick-up truck carrying smuggled timber would be traveling from Kumarghat via the national highway.
In response, a forest department team set up surveillance near the Chamtila area of the sub-division. At around 5 AM, the suspected vehicle entered the area. When officials attempted to signal the driver to stop, the vehicle accelerated in an attempt to flee the scene.
Forest personnel immediately gave chase and pursued the vehicle across several areas. The chase finally ended at the Noagang Bazar area near Bagbasa, where the department successfully intercepted and seized the timber-laden vehicle.
However, the driver managed to escape. Forest Officer Supriyo Debnath confirmed the seizure and stated that although the driver evaded arrest, efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the individual.
