Date: August 6, 2025

Location: Bishramganj, Sepahijala District

A tribal woman, reportedly an air hostess trainee from Guwahati, alleged she was molested by a fellow passenger aboard a government bus traveling from Agartala to Sonamura. After she got off at Bishramganj and alerted relatives, enraged locals and family members ransacked the bus and attacked passengers and nearby vehicles.

Police registered two FIRs—one for the molestation and another for the mob violence. No arrests have been made yet. Authorities imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

Chief Minister Manik Saha condemned both the assault and the retaliatory violence, urging calm and insisting investigations be allowed to proceed unaffected by communal narratives.

TIPRA Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma also spoke to the victim’s family and appealed for peace, emphasizing that vigilantism is not acceptable.
