Tension gripped the Children’s Park area in Agartala after chaos broke out during the distribution of tokens for stall allotment for the upcoming Chaitra Fair.
According to reports, authorities had planned to accommodate nearly 1,200 vendors, but only around 400 applicants received forms after token distribution suddenly stopped. This triggered anger among hundreds of vendors who had been waiting in long queues since early morning.
The situation quickly escalated as agitated vendors staged protests, alleging unfair practices in the distribution process. Some even accused individuals of selling tokens illegally, raising concerns over possible corruption.
Police rushed to the spot to control the unrest and reportedly used mild force to disperse the crowd. During the commotion, a woman vendor was said to have been injured.
The incident has sparked strong resentment among vendors, with many demanding a transparent and fair system that ensures equal opportunity for all participants in the Chaitra Fair.
