CRPF Vehicle Plunges into Gorge in Jammu & Kashmir’s Udhampur, 2 Jawans Killed, 12 Injured

Date:

A tragic road accident claimed the lives of two CRPF personnel and left twelve others injured in Jammu & Kashmir’s Udhampur district on Thursday morning. The incident occurred in the Basantgarh area near Kandyar when a vehicle carrying paramilitary jawans veered off a hilly road and plunged into a deep gorge.

According to police officials, the ill-fated vehicle was part of a convoy travelling along the Kandoya-Basantgarh route. It reportedly lost control while navigating a challenging stretch of the road and tumbled into the gorge. A total of 23 jawans were onboard at the time of the mishap.

Eyewitnesses from nearby villages rushed to the scene and began rescue efforts before emergency responders arrived. Local police and disaster response teams soon reached the spot and helped evacuate the injured jawans to a nearby hospital. Sources indicate that several of the injured are in critical condition.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Udhampur, Sandeep Bhatt, confirmed the fatalities and stated that medical treatment is underway for the injured. Preliminary investigations suggest that poor road conditions and possible brake failure could have led to the accident.

Authorities are continuing their probe to ascertain the exact cause of the crash. The incident once again highlights the risks faced by security personnel deployed in remote and hilly terrains of the region.
