Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was attacked during a public grievance session at her Civil Lines residence on Wednesday.
According to officials, a man standing in the queue suddenly came close to the Chief Minister and slapped her. In the commotion, she suffered a minor injury after hitting a table. She was taken to hospital for a check-up and is now stable.
The attacker has been identified as 41-year-old Rajesh Sakariya from Rajkot, Gujarat. He was caught on the spot and handed over to the police.
Preliminary investigation suggests that he was upset over a recent Supreme Court order related to stray dogs. Some reports also say he had grievances regarding a jailed family member.
The incident has raised questions about security arrangements during the Chief Minister’s public hearings. Political parties have condemned the attack and demanded strict action.
Police are questioning the accused and further investigation is underway.
