In a tense late-night encounter along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Uri sector, an Indian Army soldier lost his life while thwarting an infiltration bid by Pakistan-backed terrorists. The incident occurred on Tuesday night in Baramulla district when armed militants tried to cross over from Pakistan-occupied territory into India.
According to defence sources, the infiltrators had allegedly planned an attack on a forward border post. However, vigilant troops spotted their movement and moved in to intercept. This prompted heavy firing from across the border, reportedly backed by Pakistani positions.
During the exchange, one Indian soldier sustained fatal injuries. Army units have since launched a massive search and combing operation in the region to eliminate any remaining threats.
Security agencies suspect the attempt was aimed at escalating tensions ahead of the upcoming Independence Day celebrations, a period when infiltration bids often increase. The Indian Army has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that no such threat breaches the nation’s borders.
