Agartala, Saturday:
The traditional Ker Puja of the indigenous communities was solemnly performed today at the historic Ujjayanta Palace in Agartala, following customary rituals. In the Kokborok language, ‘Ker’ means boundary, signifying that the ritual is held within a strictly designated area. Entry into this area is prohibited during the puja. Pregnant women and ailing individuals are not allowed within the Ker boundary.
Ker Puja is held on the first Saturday or Tuesday following Kharchi Puja, which concluded a week ago. The primary aim of Ker Puja is to ensure the safety, well-being, and prosperity of the people. It is believed that the ritual protects the community from calamities and misfortune, and brings peace and harmony.
During today’s Ker Puja, Tripura Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha, Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, and West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, among other dignitaries, were present at the event.
A festive atmosphere prevailed among the tribal communities, who observed the occasion with great enthusiasm and devotion.
