North Tripura, July 10:
A heart-wrenching incident has shaken the quiet village of Naishingpara under Anandabazar Police Station in North Tripura. A five-year-old girl, Rungnangti Reang, a KG-II student, tragically lost her life after allegedly consuming poison that was mistaken for juice. Three others, including two children and a woman, are currently undergoing treatment at the district hospital.
According to the bereaved father, the child had just returned home from school and was playing with her friends while both parents were away. During playtime, a 10-year-old neighbour reportedly offered them a drink, claiming it was juice — but it turned out to be poison.
Shortly after consuming the drink, the children began writhing in pain. On seeing their condition, the mother of one of the children tried to find out what they had consumed and, in the process, drank some of the same liquid herself — falling critically ill as well.
Local residents rushed to the scene upon hearing the news and immediately took the victims to Kanchanpur Hospital. Later, they were shifted to North District Hospital for advanced treatment. Unfortunately, doctors declared little Rungnangti Reang dead upon arrival.
Medical officials confirmed that the other three victims are still under treatment and remain in critical condition. Police have launched a thorough investigation into the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding the accidental poisoning.
