Dharmanagar, June 12: A shocking incident unfolded aboard the Tripura Sundari Express on Thursday afternoon around 4:30 PM, when a middle-aged man allegedly made obscene gestures and attempted to harass a young woman who was traveling from Agartala to Dharmanagar.
The woman, whom witnesses described as being like a daughter figure to her male companion, quickly recorded the incident on her mobile phone and informed nearby passengers. In response, several female passengers confronted the man and beat him with slippers.
Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel intervened upon being alerted and detained the accused. However, the man could not escape the wrath of the crowd and was beaten by passengers before he was formally taken into custody.
The accused has been identified as Mohammad Ibrahim (50), son of the late Abdul Subher, a resident of Nabin Bazar in Amarpur, Gomati District. After the train reached Dharmanagar Railway Station, he was handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP) and is currently being held at Dharmanagar GRP station.
The family of the young woman has filed a formal written complaint against the accused. Kallol Dhar (58), the uncle accompanying the victim, confirmed the incident and praised the swift action by passengers and authorities.
Local residents and fellow passengers have demanded strict and exemplary punishment to ensure that such disgraceful acts are never repeated on trains, particularly against women.
