In a late-night incident on Wednesday, a private vehicle carrying a large quantity of illegal Burmese cigarettes met with an accident near Tilthai area on the Dharmanagar–Panisagar road. According to locals, the vehicle was moving at high speed when the driver lost control, resulting in a serious crash.
Upon witnessing the accident, local residents rushed to the spot to assist. They were shocked to discover the vehicle was loaded with a significant quantity of smuggled Burmese cigarettes. The Panisagar police were immediately informed, and they soon arrived to recover the vehicle and seize the contraband.
The incident has once again raised serious questions regarding the role and vigilance of Panisagar police in curbing illegal smuggling activities along the route.
