Agartala, June 12 — The centrally launched Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, a nationwide campaign aimed at transforming India’s agricultural landscape, concluded today with a special event held in Nalchar, Sepahijala district. The campaign, launched on May 29 by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, is part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to build a modern, innovative, and sustainable agricultural ecosystem.
The initiative, to be conducted every two years, is jointly led by the Union Agriculture Ministry and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). Its objectives include enhancing food security for India’s 1.45 billion people, increasing access to nutritious food, boosting farmers’ incomes, and promoting the conservation of natural resources.
Today’s closing ceremony was organized collaboratively by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Sepahijala and ICAR, and was graced by Minister Sudhanshu Das, Agriculture Department Director Dr. Phani Bhushan Jamatia, local MLA Kishore Barman, and Sepahijala District Sabhadhipati Supriya Das Dutta, among others.
The event began with a symbolic tree watering ceremony by the dignitaries. Minister Das interacted with farmers, providing them with key advice on sustainable farming practices. Modern agricultural tools and equipment were also distributed to farmers as part of the program.
During his address, Minister Das expressed gratitude to Tripura Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath for his various developmental initiatives benefiting farmers. He emphasized that Tripura, being an agriculture-dominated state, relies heavily on rural economic development, and that farmers are the backbone of this economy.
MLA Kishore Barman also spoke at the event, launching a scathing critique of the Left Front, accusing them of neglecting the welfare of farmers during their rule.
The event concluded on a note of optimism, with officials reaffirming their commitment to empowering farmers and driving sustainable agricultural progress in the region.
