Shocking Incident in Dharmanagar: Woman Tries to End Life After Being Denied Pilgrimage Trip

Date:

Dharmanagar, July 27:

In a shocking incident, a 24-year-old housewife allegedly attempted to end her life after being denied permission to join her family on a pilgrimage to Vrindavan and Radhakund. The incident has left her family and local residents in a state of disbelief.

The incident took place on Sunday morning in Ward No. 2 of Radhapur village, under Dharmanagar police station. The woman, identified as Anupama Nath (24), wife of Vivekananda Nath, reportedly inflicted severe injuries on herself using a sharp blade, cutting her throat and wrist, leaving her in a pool of blood.

According to her in-laws, Sonali Nath and Birendra Chandra Nath, they were at home when they suddenly heard noises from the bathroom. Initially, they assumed Anupama was feeling unwell due to indigestion, possibly from eating roti and ghugni the previous night, and might be vomiting. Concerned, they asked their son to check on her.

When her husband reached the bathroom, he found the door locked. Despite repeated calls, there was no response. He then forcefully pushed the door multiple times until it opened, only to find his wife lying on the floor, covered in blood. She was immediately rushed to North District Hospital, and Dharmanagar Women Police Station was informed.

Hospital sources confirmed that emergency medical treatment was provided promptly. While lying on the hospital bed, the injured woman reportedly confessed to police that she took the extreme step after her wish to join the family pilgrimage was ignored.

This disturbing event has sparked serious concern in the local community, raising questions about emotional well-being and mental health awareness within households. Police are currently investigating the matter.
